Yesterday was Labor Day. We had a glorious, five day, weekend. Yes! I actually got S to take a 5 day weekend! Yay. It’s hard to believe that summer’s almost over. I was hoping for better weather. This summer has been really hot and dry, but this weekend has been nothing but clouds and rain. That’s okay though. We’ve gotten a lot done. I took my dad’s truck after he died. It’s a great truck. Obviously we rarely need a second vehicle, and we got in a bad habit of not starting it and letting the battery die. I have committed to take better care of it, and keep the battery charged. Today I took it into town for service. I found a little local mechanic’s place across the street from the library. Seems like a good family-run place.

The first NFL game of the season is in TWO DAYS! How did this summer go by so quickly? Cincinnati opens at home against the Steelers. I don’t even like typing that word. Gross. In other sports news, the Reds are terrible, but somehow surprising entertaining to watch. They’re a team with a ton of first year players. Seems like every game there is someone playing their first major league game, getting their first hit or their first homerun and that’s pretty cool. The Reds have some really good rookies, especially the pitchers. Hopefully by 2024 they will be competitive. On Sunday I watched Serena Williams play her final professional tennis match. Pretty amazing. I’m glad I got to see it.

In popular culture, the first Game of Thrones spin-off just premiered a few weeks ago. House of the Dragon. It’s very good so far. I haven’t read anything awesome since my Kristin Hannah binge. Right now I am reading a new Sara Maas series. I am at 69 books for the year. The best things all year have been the Bridgerton series, Outlander and some of the Kristin Hannah books. But overall, looking at my “books read” list, there are a lot that were just okay.

My top three songs this week are: Son of a Sinner – Jelly Roll, Fall in Love – Bailey Zimmerman, Don’t Come Lookin – Jackson Dean and anything by Luke Combs. The Luke Combs part should just read, “My Favorite Artist of 2022”.

We’ve been going to the local farmer’s market every week. I’m sad this was the last week for that. Our favorite thing has been corn on the grill. I have discovered the secret for grilling the perfect corn on the cob. If you’ve never tried this, you’re going to be like “what the hell?”, but I promise you it is awesome. Put a thin coating of mayo on your corn, then top it with salt, pepper, garlic powder and parm. YUM! I also make a Mexican version by coating it with garlic powder, chili powder, cumin, salt and pepper. I haven’t tried this in the oven yet, but I am sure it would be good that way too. (It’s summer. I grill six days a week.)
