The Creek Was Dry, Then… Monsoon!

I cannot recall a summer that was this dry in my lifetime. Our county was rated as suffering from severe drought, but in the southeastern part of the state it was even worse and rated as extreme drought. Hasn’t exactly been the best summer for the farmer’s market or for growing a new lawn. I’m not sure how much our water bill will be, but probably a lot. Couldn’t let all that new sod die. (Yes. I know. First world problem) Anyway, on Thursday night Hurricane Helene hit the Florida pan handle and set a ton of rain our way. It’s been raining for about two and half days straight at this point, but fortunately it’s not caused any damage or flooding for us. In this area it was desperately needed. I feel bad for the people who bought the lot next to us. They poured the foundation and basement walls on Thursday before the monsoon started. I would be freaking out if I were them. I mean I am no concrete expert, but I would not feel good about the whole foundation of my new house sitting in this giant pool of mud and water. Who knows what has eroded or shifted, right?

Our deck is done. It’s sooo pretty. Because we’re us, our movie quote mantra was taken from the movie Draft Day. “No matter what. Don’t skimp on the deck”. We didn’t and it’s fantastic. The line is “Vontae Mack. No matter What”, by the way. Great movie. Kevin Costner does the best sports movies!

Today S hung four blinds. This might sound like no big deal for some people, but we’re not very handy so we were very pleased with ourselves. The biggest things left are some curtains and rods downstairs and picking our some barstools for the island. We have also assembled two, white rockers for our porch. Love them. I’ve sat out there in the mornings and read a few times, but since it’s nearly October I probably won’t have very many more opportunities to use them this year.

The baseball season is almost over. At least for the Reds. Another very disappointing season filled with injuries. It a young and very exciting team. I hope they’re healthy next year so we have a chance to see what they can really do. Sadly, it appears the Bengals are going to be awful as well. The defense is just flat out bad. Really bad. They’re 0-3. All the games have been close, but in all of them they defense has just been awful. JDub keeps telling me I need to re-up with Netflix. I might have to do that soon if football is going to be so depressing.

Work sucks, but we have Monday off so that’s nice. I’m currently binging regency romance series. (Think Bridgerton). The hottest song in America for September was Shaboozy, A Bar Song (a.k.a. Tipsy), both pop and country charts. Teddy Swims, Lose Control 58th week on the charts. Still in the top 10.
