Okay. I know. Making a sub shouldn’t be a recipe. However, I am often referred to as the sandwich and salad queen right? This is an Italian sub that rivals any you can buy.
- Two Mini French Baguettes – (I use La Brea Take & Bake French Baguette Twin Pack from my Kroger bakery)
- 1/4 lb. pepperoni
- 1/4 lb. hard salami
- 2/3 lb. baked Ham, sliced
- 6 slices provolone
- mild banana pepper rings
- 1/2 small red onion, sliced thin
- 4 tbs Hellman’s mayo
- 6 tbs Italian dressing
- 1/2 head iceberg lettuce, shredded
- 1 tomato, sliced thinly
- 1/4 sliced black olives (optional)
- Salt and pepper
INSTRUCTIONS
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees
- Partially bake your rolls according to package instructions. (I cook mine about halfway)
- Slice your sub rolls in half and place them open face on a baking sheet
- Add your deli meat one at a time to a skillet on medium heat. You really just want to warm your meat up and brown it slightly. This gives it that nice crispiness that you get from having the meat cooked on a flat grill at a sub place. Use a griddle if you prefer
- Layer the meats in equal parts to your sub rolls.
- Top with cheese slices
- Bake for 5 – 6 minutes
- Remove your subs from the oven and add your onion, olives and banana peppers
- Bake for six minutes
- Remove from oven and add mayo and Italian dressing
- Top with lettuce and tomato
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fold subs and slice into your preferred portion size
