Hello! It’s been a busy May in the almost country with lots of cleaning, packing and daily visits to the homesite. We’re getting excited, but we’re also approaching the most stressful time in this process. Our current home will officially be on the market one week from today. So will begin the daily grind of making sure the house is looking perfect every day and leaving so that strangers can walk through it. Fingers crossed that it sells quickly, but to someone who will be willing to wait to close until August when the other house is built.
The new house is coming along nicely. The roof went on yesterday and now they’re working on HVAC. We’ve gotten in the habit of driving over each evening after dinner. This week we met with different deck builders and are anxiously awaiting those quotes. I can’t wait for you to see it. It’s so surreal looking out the windows and being so much higher up. I’m going to miss our dining room. Because seriously… it’s a cool room, but the views here are pretty awesome too. We’re especially happy that we own some of the woods instead of the woods being owned by a cranky, old man.
Electrical is happening next week and then we have our pre-drywall walkthrough. One of the most fun things has been seeing the whole process. We didn’t get to see any of this last time.
Continued…
Our house is now listed for sale and it is just not a fun thing to deal with, but as GG would say, “It is what it is”.
Electrical is done in the new house and the roll insulation is in. I think foam insulation is happening today.
Continued again…
This is the never-ending post because we have so much going on it slips my mind. I can’t believe it’s been a month. Anyway, our existing house is now under contract. Our move is only a month away. The new house looks great. We are excited to get into it. Kitchen cabinets and counters are in. Doors are hung and plumbing fixtures installed. Electric and HVAC are in. Next up is probably the driveway and paint. The most nerve-wracking thing at this point is getting to closing and hoping all the stars align so we can close on this house the day before we close on the new one to allow for maximum moving time. The current plan is to close on this house on a Monday, close on new house on Tuesday morning, movers on Wednesday, hopefully appliances on Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning and handyman on Friday to hang our lights. We have four ceiling fan rough-ins. Two in bedrooms, one in the family room and one on the front porch. We are also replacing the cheesy builder-grade pendants with our own. It may seem silly to do such a thing, but since we have a handyman there, we felt like it made sense to do it all at one time. And trust me, the ones that are there now are ugly. It’s just not something where you have options. It’s pretty much – Do you want pendants? Yes or no? The most important thing is to get the wiring for them rather than worry about the look. Then the following week, we have the deck builder scheduled. Clearly there are many balls being juggled.
We LOVE the lot. It’s so much bigger than this one and so much more private. Watching the lot grading has actually been fun. There’s quite a slope down to the creek on the left so there have been multiple loads of dirt hauled in to combat that. It’s changed so much since the beginning. We’re already talking about how to landscape it. There will definitely be more mowing, but the deck and patio will take care of some of that. Can’t wait!
XOXO
